This year marks a meaningful milestone for New Braunfels Christian Ministries, the 20th anniversary of Kids Club. For two decades, Kids Club has provided a safe, welcoming afterschool environment where students are known, encouraged and invested in each day by dedicated volunteers and staff. These mentors help children improve their reading, complete their homework, and, just as importantly, ensure they receive a hot meal and a sense of belonging.
What began in 2006 with just a handful of students at one school has grown into a program serving 200 students from 14 campuses across New Braunfels ISD and Comal ISD. The vision for Kids Club was born out of a mission trip to Chicago, when a group from Oakwood Church saw firsthand the transformative power of consistent care and support for children. Inspired, they returned home determined to create something similar, an accessible, free afterschool program for kids, many of whom face difficult circumstances. Today, that vision has grown into New Braunfels Christian Ministries, including Kids Club and Volunteers in Medicine, a clinic where uninsured adults receive compassionate medical and dental care free of charge at more than 7,000 appointments each year.
This impact would not be possible without the unwavering support of volunteers, donors, and community partners. Week after week, individuals give their time, resources, and energy to invest in the lives of local students. What began as a simple idea, sharing the love of Christ through service, has become a living mission marked by compassion, generosity, and kindness. To every volunteer, past and present, to the staff who have faithfully served over the last 20 years, and to each donor, church, business and organization who has walked alongside us, thank you. While this anniversary is a time to reflect on the past and celebrate what has been accomplished, it is also an invitation to look ahead.
