Dear Kids Club,
I hope this finds you well. I’ve been reflecting on my childhood and the people and places that helped shape who I am today, and Kids Club is one of the most important.
As a child, Kids Club was so much more than an after-school program to me. Growing up underprivileged and poor, life often felt unstable and overwhelming. Walking through your doors after school gave me a sense of safety and comfort that I didn’t always have elsewhere. It was a place where I felt protected, welcomed, and truly cared for.
Beyond the safety and support, Kids Club gave me something else that has lasted far beyond childhood: community. Even eight years later, I am still very close with many of the kids I met there. Some of the strongest and most meaningful relationships in my life were formed within those walls. In fact, I met my best friend at Kids Club—someone who has stood by me through so much and continues to be a huge part of my life today.
You created an environment where friendships could grow, where kids from difficult circumstances could connect, support one another, and feel less alone. That sense of belonging meant everything to me, and it still does.
Thank you for creating a safe space for children like me, for showing kindness and patience, and for believing in kids who needed it most. The impact of Kids Club didn’t end when I aged out—it lives on through the relationships, confidence, and gratitude I carry with me every day.
With sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks,
Lillie
